Lolita the orca has lived in this same small barren tank since 1970, with no direct shade from the blistering Miami sun, no enrichment, and no companions of her own species (since 1980 when her companion “Hugo” died).
Lolita is my reason for animal activism. She’s my hero and deserves so richly to return to the Seattle area where she was brutally captured from so many years ago. Her family (known as “the L-pod”) still swims those waters and is carefully monitored by researchers. She can and should be rightfully returned to them after so many years of exploitation.
